Peace Square is the main square in the historic center of Trencin, in the district of Stred.
It got its present shape around the middle of the 15th century, when the city gates were built at its ends.
The name Mierové námestie was awarded in honor of its peace and its current name has been used since 1962. This square went through nine names until it was named Mierová. For interest, its previous names were:
In the Middle Ages it was called Rink, Theatrum, Hauptplatz, Fötér In the years 1911 it was nicknamed - Szalavszky Gyulatér. The name was according to the mayor
During 1918 it was called Masaryk Square. In the following years 1938 it was Hlinka Square, in the following years around 1945 - Stalin Square and finally the square was named Peace Square in 1962.
On Mierovo námestí you can also come and see the so-called Plague Column, many restaurants, cafes and some shops. From Peace Square you can also get to the very famous Trenčín Castle, where you can enjoy a beautiful view and its history
